Netflix growth continues with 4 million new subscribers

Video streaming service Netflix’s strong growth has continued with 4.07 million new subscribers worldwide in the final quarter of 2013.

It now has 41.43 million paying members worldwide, including 33.17 million paying members in the United States alone.

This recent growth adds to the 2.7 million new signups that the service received during Q3 2013.

Netflix says it has ‘years of growth’ to come, and forecasts another 4.35 million paid members during the first quarter of 2014.

It also commented on the ongoing net neutrality debate and the potential for an ISP to ‘impede’ its video streaming service.

It said: “Were this draconian scenario to unfold with some ISP, we would vigorously protest and encourage our members to demand the open Internet they are paying their ISP to deliver.

“The most likely case, however, is that ISPs will avoid this consumer-unfriendly path of discrimination. ISPs are generally aware of the broad public support for net neutrality and don’t want to galvanize government action.”
